Universal rules
- Konbini (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) — Almost all have a free, clean toilet near the back. Just walk in.
- Train stations — Inside the gates at almost every JR/Metro station. Outside the gates at large stations.
- Depachika & department stores — Basement food halls and each floor of Isetan/Takashimaya/Tokyu have spotless restrooms.
- Parks & shrines — Public toilets near park entrances and most large shrines (Meiji, Sensoji, Ueno).
- Convenience malls — Don Quijote, Loft, Tokyu Hands — restrooms on most floors.
